Brighton & Hove Albion goalkeeper Mat Ryan believes that the Australian national team can compete with the best sides in the world.

Australia sealed their qualification into the 2018 FIFA World Cup with a 3-1 victory over Honduras on Wednesday and following the game, Ryan has backed his nation to impress everyone by performing well at the showpiece event.

He said: "We wanted to change the philosophy of Australian football in the world and be a possession-based team.

"Now we've got the World Cup berth to show for it. We look forward to going to the World Cup and showing the world how Australia can play football."
