Brighton boss Graham Potter admits they were poor for their FA Cup defeat at Sheffield Wednesday.

Adam Reach's deflected strike midway through the second half sealed a 1-0 win for the Championship outfit and Potter admitted it had been a 'flat' display by his side, who struggled to create clear-cut opportunities.

“It's very disappointing, especially our second-half performance when we didn't do the basics well enough," said the head coach.

“We huffed and puffed but Sheffield Wednesday deserved to go through. It took a deflected goal and it wasn't a classic game of football, but we need to do better."

Albion made seven changes to the side which drew 1-1 with Chelsea on New Year's Day and Potter felt their performance lacked cohesion.

“We've had a busy period of games and sometimes when you make changes it's difficult to get that cohesion and understanding in your performance," added Potter.

“There wasn't enough quality - we didn't ask enough of their goalkeeper and their back line. But as with any game we have picked up information about the group and the players. We have to be a bit frustrated and angry about our performance, learn from it and move on.

“I like the FA Cup and I was looking forward to the game. But the distance between ourselves and Sheffield Wednesday isn't that big and we needed to play to our capacity to get a result, unfortunately we weren't able to do so."
