Brentford boss Dean Smith admits they failed with a January bid to re-sign Crystal Palace midfielder Sullay Kaikai.
Kaikai spent the first half of the season on loan at Brentford, scoring three goals in 18 games for the Championship side, but the 21-year-old was recalled in January with new Palace boss Sam Allardyce keen to assess his options.
"We tried Crystal Palace but they wanted to keep him. Things we tried didn't happen so you're left with the hand you're dealt with," said Smith.
"It'll be a priority in the summer and our recruitment team are working on it at the moment."
