Rafa Benitez insists Newcastle United are not yet safe.
United need to beat Southampton to re-establish the 10-point gap between themselves and third-bottom Cardiff.
Benitez told the Evening Chronicle: "We all share the feeling I think - maybe we are safe, maybe.
"I thought that 38 points would be enough, but the reality is Cardiff won their last game and now Cardiff, Southampton and Brighton still in the mix.
"It is not very clear.
"What is the best way to clarify the situation?
"To get three points against Southampton.
"Every game you get points it's easier to get to safety.
"But in the mean time we can't sit around wondering what others will do, we have to do our job."
