Bayern Munich are ready to challenge Manchester City for Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Denis Zakaria.

Sky Deutschland says there's been multiple rounds of talks between Bayern and Zakaria's minders in recent weeks.

The 23-year-old midfielder is under contract with Gladbach until 2022. A knee injury has forced him to watch from the sidelines since March - but he is currently in training.

News of Bayern's approach arrives after BILD reported City are in contact with Gladbach and preparing to offer €40m for the Switzerland international.

In need for a long-term replacement for Fernandinho, City have identified Zakaria as a solution.
