Atletico Madrid striker Griezmann apologises to fans after cutting ties with Barcelona

Atletico Madrid striker Antoine Griezmann apologised to fans after victory at Athletic Bilbao.

Griezmann went into the game on the back of signing permanently from Barcelona, with the Frenchman apologising to fans for the confusion.

He said: "I am very proud to have been able to renew and be completely an athlete. In the end, I apologise, I know that people want to hear it from my voice: I apologise for the damage I may have done to people, but the greatest forgiveness I want to ask for is on the pitch, giving everything for the team and with nights like this.

"We're on the path to follow despite not being able to beat Club Brugge."

On previously being prevented from playing 90 minutes due to a clause in his loan arrangement, he added: "Personally it was complicated, but I tried not to show it, I know I was playing for a coach I love very much and some teammates who deserve the best of me. If I have to play I give 100% and if I don't encourage my teammates and when I come differences."
