Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo has confirmed talks with Mateu Alemany.
The sporting director is a free agent after leaving Barcelona in September.
Cerezo told Radio Marca: "The only thing I know for sure is that we are in negotiations for him to come to work for Atlético de Madrid."
Meanwhile, Cerezo also celebrated coach Diego Simeone's new deal.
He stated: "What Cholo did in Spain is a special event. I don't think there have been many coaches who have been in charge for more than 15 years, I think none. He is going to pass them and he is going to pass them well and with success.
"I know the case of Ferguson at United and it seems like a magnificent story to me. It seems wonderful to me that this continuity is fruitful and enjoyable for everyone, for the partners, managers, players and everyone around Atlético de Madrid."
