Aston Villa legend Andy Gray has branded club captain Gabby Agbonlahor as "pathetic".
Gray has accused Agbonlahor of "conning" the fans after he was disciplined for being pictured smoking a shisha pipe in Dubai.
He told Bein Sport: "I think he's (Agbonlahor) conned the Villa fans for so many years in my opinion.
"And it is my opinion, not the channel's, mine. And I think that as club captain, in a season where they've been absolutely pathetic.
"And I wish I didn't have to choose that word, because we've both been players, and I know what it's like to be a player. It's not easy. But, they've been shocking.
"They've been a disgrace and your fans have suffered for eight months. Suffered. You do not, in my opinion, disappear to Dubai, get caught in a nightclub, drinking and 'shisha-ing' all night long… and expect to not get criticised.
"When I think of some of the great captains I've played with at that club, great captains, they would not be anywhere near a holiday. Villa players shouldn't be on holiday, Villa players should be in their houses."
When asked whether there was anything wrong in Agbonlahor and Micah Richards taking a mid-season break, Gray replied: "Nothing wrong with that. But don't do it in Dubai, don't do it in a nightclub.
"Is that relaxing and saying I'm going to get ready for the rest of the season? No! That's 'I'm yahoo-ing it, I'm Gabby Agbonlahor , I earn sixty grand a week, and if we go down I don't really care.'
"That's Gabby Agbonlahor. Sorry."
