Aston Villa boss Steven Gerrard hasn't dropped plans to prise Joe Gomez away from Liverpool.

Football Insider says Aston Villa want to sign the England defender before the transfer window closes next week.

Gomez is battling for minutes this season after recovering from a knee injury last term.

Reds boss Jürgen Klopp is happy with Virgil van Dijk and Joel Matip as his first-choice centre-half pairing - with Ibrahima Konaté as cover.

As such, Aston Villa are ready to push Liverpool to part with Gomez before the deadline falls.
