Aston Villa boss Unai Emery has blocked Jhon Duran from joining Colombia's squad for the U20 World Cup.

With Villa chasing a Europa League place, Emery has refused to grant the young attacker a release.

“Our idea is to keep him," Emery said of Duran's call-up this week. “We want to work with him and for him to rest when we tell him to rest.

"We want to do one way, one strategy with him, to improve and get his performances to give us here.

“Of course, now we are trying with him to take days off and to rest to come again with us, to be 100 percent with Aston Villa."
