Almiron move in doubt due to Newcastle takeover talk

Newcastle United's move for Atlanta United attacker Miguel Almiron could be off due to takeover talks.

The Daily Star says Almiron appears to have played his final game for the American outfit and the player's father this week admitted Newcastle held the 'advantage' in the race to sign the 24-year-old.

But ongoing issues at St. James' Park may cause the attacking midfielder to eventually move elsewhere.

Atlanta president Darren Eales has doubts over allowing Almiron to move to Newcastle as speculation continues to surround Rafa Benitez's future and a potential takeover.

The MLS chief wants to ensure that the 'situation is right' when the Atlanta star finally moves from America to Europe - this relates to the team involved and the price they are willing to pay for Almiron's services.

But Eales is also said to be unsure whether Newcastle will meet their valuation next month.
