Zakuani set to make Seattle Sounders return

Steve Zakuani provided some positivity for the Seattle Sounders when he spent the 1-1 midweek draw with Sporting Kansas City sitting on the bench.

The 24-year old winger has been out of action since badly breaking a leg last April but is on the verge of a comeback after being deemed fit enough to be a substitute for Wednesday’s meeting at CenturyLink Field.

Despite not taking any part in the match, the former Arsenal youngster admitted it was good for him to slowly get back into things from a team point of view.

“It was a good experience for me to get that taste today,” Zakuani told reporters.

“It would have been nice to get in, but I think the way the game went probably it was smart not to.

“Like I said, I’m feeling a lot more part of the team with that kind of step forward. It’s good. It’s good. It was a huge step forward.”

Zakuani will now be hoping head coach Sigi Schmid gives him some game time when the Sounders take on Cascadia rivals Portland Timbers at JELD-WEN Field this weekend.
