Villarreal attacker Alfonso Pedraza is delighted to have been involved with Spain this past week.

Pedraza admits his call-up came as a surprise.

He said, “I was almost in bed and I got a call from a number I didn't have and they told me that I had been called up because of a player's injury. I was speechless because it's the last thing you expect. It was a huge joy for me and for my family.

“The loans away I have had helped me grow. It's true that it's been many years, but that's the way things are. Everything I've achieved is thanks to the clubs I've played for, but I'll always be grateful to Villarreal for making me the player I am today because the prize of having reached the national team is also largely due to the years I've been here."
