Villa management delighted with comeback of ex-Man Utd prospect Lampkin

Aston Villa management is delighted with the return to action of Jason Lampkin.

Villa academy chief Tony McAndrew hailed Jason Lampkin's "patience, desire and determination" after seeing him return to action after almost a year out.

Lampkin suffered a horrendous knee ligament injury in the FA Youth Cup semi-final first leg clash against Newcastle.

The former Manchester United trainee, capped by England at U16 level, made a winning return to the side this weekend in the 3-1 win over Crystal Palace.

McAndrew admitted being thrilled with his contribution but, more importantly, delighted to see him back.

He told Villa's website: "I am delighted for Jason. We have a programme set for him in terms of game situations.

"The plan was to give him as much as we could without exceeding 45 minutes and he managed 30 minutes. That was great for him.

"It was a really nasty injury and it's never nice to see young players injured. The closer he's got back to playing the more frustrated he's been.

"It was great to get him out there from a mental perspective. I was delighted to see him get a goal but his participation in the game far exceeds any goal.

"To see him out there, pain-free was fantastic. Anyone who comes back from injuries like this deserves credit for their patience, desire and determination to recover."
