Thornley exclusive: Commentating on sons of former Man Utd pals Savage, Neville

Manchester United FA Youth Cup winner Ben Thornley has found himself commentating on the sons of two of his former teammates.

Thornley, who now works as a pundit for Manchester United's TV channel, MUTV, is right across the talent coming through the club's youth system - including the sons of his former teammates.

Thornley won the FA Youth Cup final in 1992 alongside Robbie Savage, while he also played regularly with Phil Neville. And now the sons of his two old teammates are making big strides at United.

Harvey Neville, after following his father to Valencia, returned to England and signed for United, where he is now making a name for himself with the U18 team this season. The same can be said for Charlie Savage, the son of Leicester City great Robbie Savage. A midfielder like his Dad, Charlie is with the Wales U18 squad this week.

In his column for Tribalfootball.com, Thornley touched on both players, admitting he's been impressed by Harvey as he's called United youth games this season.

He wrote: "Harvey has been excellent this season, working extremely hard to play a consistent amount of games."

On Savage, Thornley also said: "I saw Charlie play in the FA Youth Cup, as I will against Liverpool a week on Saturday, and he's got a terrific left-foot and wonderful range of passing.

"Charlie likes to play in the number six position and is somebody from a deep lying position can make things happen up the pitch. I'm really pleased for both of them with how well they've done in recent months."
