Former goalkeeper Neville Southall has expressed his belief that Everton are too good to be relegated.
In a far cry to their wonderful season last year, Everton have endured a woeful campaign this time around and instead of contending for a Champions League place, the Toffees' find themselves fighting for their lives to avoid relegation - only six points off the drop zone.
While many feel that the season so far has been one to forget, Toffees legend Southall believes that the current campaign could actually prove to be a blessing in disguise.
The Welshman reiterated his confidence in manager Roberto Martinez by saying that Everton will not go down under the Spaniard and added that this year's disappointment could actually serve as motivation in their Europa League pursuit and for next season.
Southall told the Liverpool Echo: "I don't think for a minute Everton will go down. They will get through this season and it could be the best thing that's ever happened to them.
"They have had a good season under Roberto and now a s*** season, so let's see the real Everton. It could be real motivation for next season.
"Also, it could be they survive relegation and win a cup. There is form here for that. We did it in 1995 and are there any teams in Europe to be scared off? No. Not for me."
