Sheffield United insist a deal for Stoke City goalkeeper Steve Simonsen will soon be closed.

The Sheffield Star says senior figures behind the scenes at Bramall Lane says that red-tape, not an unexpected change of heart, is the cause of the delay in the keeper inking a Blades deal.

"These things often take time," one said.

"But we are confident that, unless something dramatic happens, everything will still go through."
