Sevilla president Jose Castro has defended the sacking of coach Jose Luis Mendilibar.
Mendilibar was sacked and replaced by Diego Alonso this week by Sevilla's board after leading the team to the Europa League title last season. The veteran coach also guided Sevilla away from relegation danger after taking over from Jorge Sampaoli.
Castro, however, insisted: "It shouldn't be normal, but football feeds on results.
"We are very grateful to Mendilibar for his work here, he has made us win another trophy. What happened is that the results didn't arrive and a team like ours can't afford to win two games out of eleven."
