Rooney eyes Charlton's England scoring record

Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney is keen to better Sir Bobby Charlton's international scoring record.

Charlton netted on 49 occasions for England and although Rooney is only on 24, the fact he is only 23-years old works in his favour.

After a brilliant season with the national team last year (he scored ten goals in seven games), Rooney is determined to keep his excellent form up for both club and country.

"I am really enjoying myself with United. Hopefully that will continue and both United and England will benefit from that," he said.

"I should be scoring more goals. Then the World Cup as well. It's definitely going to be the biggest year for me."

Rooney added: "It's an amazing record he's got. Obviously, I have spoken to him about different things about football.

"He's always around the club, comes to all the games, speaks to you, tries to give you advice, which I am grateful for.

"I have seen some of his goals. When the ball is rolling, I don't think I have seen a harder shot than his.

"But hopefully I can continue and keep scoring. It's probably the best start I have had to a season for Man United goalscoring wise and I am enjoying it."
