Steven Reid is confident West Bromwich Albion will learn from last season's "wake up call".
Reid is leaving the Albion after coming off contract.
He told the Birmingham Mail: "I think the club needed that wake up call - the staff, the players, the Board, everyone.
"Last season we didn't get the players in early enough and we paid for that. Everyone at the club from players to the Board will know that it was a bad season. There was no satisfaction to be taken from staying up apart from the fact that it means Premier League football but we fell way below the standards we'd set."
