Record breaking attendances for La Liga

La Liga, the organising body for the top two tiers of soccer in Spain, has revealed that it registered a record-breaking total attendance of 7,520,225 for the first half of the 2018/19 season, reports, www.sportspromedia.com/.

The latest figure marks the first time that the total attendance across La Liga and the Segunda División has broken the seven million barrier ahead of Spanish soccer's winter break, representing an 8.71 per cent increase on the previous campaign, with 602,372 more fans taking in live games at stadiums across the two divisions.

The first half of the season saw 5,172,228 supporters attend La Liga games, which was a 2.35 per cent increase on the same period in 2017/18, with 118,942 more fans visiting top-flight grounds.

The most impressive growth came in the second-tier Segunda División, which secured a 25.93 per cent increase on the previous campaign by bringing in 2,347,997 fans between August and January.

Average attendances in both leagues are also on the rise, with La Liga registering an average 27,222 fans across its 20 stadia during the first half of the season, while the Segunda División recorded an average of 10,164 supporters at its 22 venues.

The latest attendance figures suggest La Liga is on course to reach its overall attendance target of 15 million by the end of the season.
