Real Sociedad are moving for Newcastle United midfielder Mikel Merino.

AS says La Real have made Merino their top transfer target this summer - though face competition from Athletic Bilbao and Real Betis.

La Real president Jokin Aperribay is in England for talks with Newcastle about a fee for the midfielder. Aperribay is hoping to do business for €15m.

Merino's agents have also held talks with La Real officials this week, where a five-year contract has been offered.

Along with Merino, Aperribay has also asked Newcastle about a price for Ayoze Perez.
