Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric delighted to be back on scoresheet

Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric was delighted with his goal in their Champions League rout at APOEL.

The 6-0 win sees Real qualify for the round of 16.

Modric said: “It really was vital today, getting through, and progressing from the group stage. Now we have to focus on LaLiga and try to claw some points back. We can do it if we play like we did tonight.

"The win will boost out confidence for the future and we are now going to grow as a team and be the Real Madrid that people know. We will continue to perform well and win games.

“I don't shoot often, but thankfully today it went in. It was a similar goal to one I scored for Croatia. I am very happy to have opened my account for the season."

Lucas Vazquez, meanwhile, admits Real went into the game needing a positive performance.

"It was a game from which we needed to emerge feeling stronger. The result and the performance go hand-in-hand, the vibes are good, we played with good intensity and must continue in this vein. That's how we'll go on and achieve big things," said the winger.
