Rangers could have Michael Beale installed as new manager by Monday.
The Daily Mail says the 42-year-old former Aston Villa coach was granted permission to talk to the Scottish club after they made their approach official on Friday.
Beale, who spent three years at Ibrox as an intrinsic part of Steven Gerrard's coaching staff, is keen to take on the challenge despite having turned down the chance to join Premier League Wolves last month citing 'loyalty and integrity' behind his reasons.
Rangers want to make an appointment by on Monday, when their players return to training, if they can finalise terms with QPR.
They sacked Giovanni van Bronckhorst last week with the club nine points behind Celtic in the Scottish Premiership title race and Beale was their number one target.
