Genoa president Enrico Preziosi has warned he's ready to walk away from football if Italian authorities fail to stamp out crowd violence.
Tempers ran high after Genoa's 3-3 draw with Fiorentina as a supporters coach from Florence hit Grifone fan Gabriele Amato, leaving him fighting for his life.
"At the moment we are thinking of Gabriele and we hope that he can pull through," Preziosi asserted. "But I was destroyed by what happened on Sunday and I could even quit football if these events are repeated.
"I say enough violence and I ask our extraordinary fans to take a step backwards and to change their attitudes so things don't escalate.
The game was also controversial as Fiorentina battled back from 3-0 down to grab a point, aided by some debatable refereeing.
"The referee did make mistakes, but it didn't justify that kind of protest," Preziosi continued.
"However, I would like to make clear that there wasn't any violence or vandalism outside the stadium, even if that was erroneously reported.
"We just need to turn the page. I won't talk about conspiracy because Genoa are a team that are loved and we believe we can finish fourth.
"We will continue with complete faith in the referees and we don't feel the need to submit any complaint."
