The Sun says Pompey boss Michael Appleton will sign Chelsea midfielder Clifford - if Pompey survive their Friday survival deadline.
Clifford, 20, played in Pompey's 3-0 friendly win over Bolton on Sunday.
But the club may fold if they do not slash their wage bill.
