Portland Timbers have officially released striker Kris Boyd from his contract with the club.
The 29-year old Scottish striker joined the Timbers in January 2012 after an unhappy stint with Turkish club Eskisehirspor but failed to really make an impression in 26 MLS appearances last year in which he scored seven goals.
Portland and Boyd came to a mutual agreement to terminate Designated Player contract of the former Rangers star on Thursday.
"We would like to thank Kris for his service to the club and we wish him well in his future endeavors," Timbers general manager Gavin Wilkinson said in a press release.
