Paul Ince exclusive: Fernandes a great Man Utd player - but as captain...?

With seven yellow cards to his name this season, only three players in the Premier League currently accumulated more warnings than Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes.

The Portuguese ace has three more cards than any other United player, so in that aspect, the captain is leading the way, but what does a former captain think of Fernandes and his performances?

“Looking through the team sheet, there are not many people you'd give the armband to," says Paul Ince while speaking to Tribalfootball.com about his own illustrious career.

“When you look at the teams I played in, you had about six or seven captains. There were so many leaders and characters. When you look at United now, they haven't got that kind of leadership. Captains can be different in different ways. Some can be vocal. Some lead be by the way they play. David Beckham wasn't a shouter, but he showed in the way he played, that he could lead teams.

Bruno Fernandes gets very frustrated, and I understand that, he wants the team to do well. He really, really does. He has got that will and desire to win and when things are not going well on the pitch, you see it in his body language. That is something he needs to try to learn. If you look at the captain and his body language is low, then everyone else is going to be low.

“Sometimes he shows everyone that he's not happy. He starts arguing with the referees and all this stuff. But I still think he's a very, very good player. And, as I said, there's not many people you could give the armband to. Maybe Casemiro, if he comes back. Perhaps Harry Maguire, who used to be the captain. Maguire got himself back in the team, but unfortunately, he's injured now. There was talk of him leaving and he was being left out. It would be a big turnaround for him to captain again."

Paul Ince was talking to Tribalfootball.com on behalf of www.stocklytics.com.
