Palmer backs Gold Coast to be financial for many years

Gold Coast United owner Clive Palmer says the new A-League club will be financial for many years to come.

As clubs in Australia including the Queensland Roar begin to feel the pinch of the current economic climate, Palmer maintains that his franchise will be fine.

Although there is a strong rivalry beginning to occur between Gold Coast and the Queensland Roar, Palmer was empathetic of the foundation club's current situation.

"We wish them well. I guess it is a situation of the current financial downturn," he said.

"There's not a lot of people who are as financially robust as we are.

"Certainly we have no financial problems in the next five to 10 years that I can see.

"But it's very difficult to make money out of football - most of the clubs are run to serve their community."
