Oscar Trejo explains giving up Rayo Vallecano captaincy

Oscar Trejo has announced he's giving up Rayo Vallecano's club captaincy.

The midfielder confirmed the decision on Sunday, with Oscar Valentin now new skipper.

Trejo explained: "" The armband for me was never a priority. From the first day I met this club and its people I knew it was my place.

"I don't know how much longer I will have space in it, but what I do know is what I want, the time I am in I want to dedicate myself to enjoying my colleagues, of playing soccer and people, the one who is inside and outside every day, the one who makes it special and for me is the best heritage of the club."

Trejo's contract runs to June, though it's understood the midfielder has been left disappointed with how the club is treating sections of the support.

He continued: I had this idea in my head a long time ago and after thinking it over, I decided to stop being the captain.

"There are many reasons, but the main one is not to agree on the methodology or the treatment of workers and fans, the raw material that really makes this club important and different. Let no one doubt that from my new place I will continue supporting, defending and above all, taking care of what for me always, I have said and I will say is my home.

"Wherever I am, I will always be one more in the Santa Inés. A big hug to everyone."
