Optimism in Serie A that further strike action will be averted

The president of the Italian Players' Union is hopeful a deal can be reached on Monday to avert further strike action in Serie A. Talks will resume in Milan, with the Italian Players' Union (AIC) seemingly set to accept the Lega Serie A's proposal of signing a temporary resolution which will last until the end of the 2011/12 campaign.

"The conditions are there to sign the agreement," said AIC president Damiano Tommasi to Gazzetta dello Sport.

"The work done by the Italian Olympic Committee and by the Italian Football Federation has contributed to help bring to an end this long process.

"The important thing is that an agreement is reached and that players can return to play."

The old agreement expired at the end of the 2009/10 season, with talks over its renewal continuing throughout last term and this summer.
