Newcastle United are set to make a late bid for Tottenham midfielder Kevin-Prince Boateng.

The Guardian says Aston Villa have expressed interest in the young German, but Spurs are unwilling to take a significant loss and the prospect of Villa making an acceptable offer looked slim last night, when he too was in action at Goodison. Newcastle, however, were also monitoring the situation.
