Newcastle news: Benitez calls for fans unity; Diame wanted at Cardiff

Newcastle United boss Rafa Benitez has called on fans to stick together.

Speaking at the annual Newcastle United Foundation Dinner, which celebrated the fantastic achievements of the charity in the community, Benitez urged unity.

“I think it's important for the city to realise we have to stick together," Benitez told guest host Gabby Logan. “That is the way - we want to stay in the Premier League and be stronger next year but the only way [to do that] is every game we have the support of all the fans.

“Home or away, if we lose we have to carry on because it is a long season, but I am sure we will do well."

Meanwhile, Newcastle midfielder Momo Diame is being linked with Cardiff City.

Former Wales striker Nathan Blake said: “Cardiff don't need much, they really don't. What they do require is something a little unique, someone with that extra quality who can make the difference between the top two and the top six at the end of the season.

“The person who fits that bill for me is Mohamed Diame, who spends far too much of his time at the moment sitting on the bench up at Newcastle United and who must be itching to play regularly in a successful side."
