Newcastle fullback Tavernier determined to make most of Rotherham chance

Newcastle United defender James Tavernier is ready to make the most of his chance with Rotherham United.

He could make his debut for Steve Evans' side against Gillingham this weekend at the New York Stadium.

Tavernier said after joining the Yorkshire club: "I found out that Rotherham were interested in me and, straight away.

"I thought it would be a good idea to come and get some games under my belt.

"I've had a good welcome from everyone and I've got a really good feeling about this and I can't wait to get on the pitch on Saturday."

Tavernier has now had loan stints with Gateshead, Carlisle, Shrewsbury, MK Dons, Sheff Wed and now the Millers.

But he said: "Hopefully I can learn something new coming here and I'm really looking forward to it.

"My gaffer at Newcastle says it's a short-term loan to get games under my belt and I'll take every game as it comes and see what happens at the end of it.

"I can play across the back four and feel really comfortable playing from right-back to left-back and as a centre-half.

"Rotherham are on a great run at the minute and in a great position and hopefully I can help push them higher up the league and get them in with a chance of getting promoted."
