Newcastle boss McClaren happy with make-up of squad

Newcastle United boss Steve McClaren insists he's happy with his squad.

After the arrival of Florian Thauvin, Aleksandar Mitrovic, Chancel Mbemba, Georginio Wijnaldum and Ivan Toney, he says he will be happy if there's no more additions.

McClaren told the Evening Chronicle: “We have talked about that (defensive depth) but our squad is big enough at the moment," he insisted. “There are ten days to go, anything can happen but right now, we sit tight. We are kind of reviewing things. The next two (league) games are a massive test for this club (they host Arsenal a week on Saturday).

“We are still learning about our best team, systems, players. We have not gelled yet, not got the fitness. We just need to sit back, chill and relax, and then get a performance and try and get a result too, then see what happens. Generally, in football something always happens."
