New Sevilla coach Alonso: A luxury to count on Navas and Ramos

New Sevilla coach Diego Alonso admits he will need to win over the players he's inherited.

Alonso recognises his predecessor Jose Luis Mendilibar was "loved" by the players.

He conceded at his presentation: "Each coach has his own perspective of the game, his idea of how he wants to play. I don't like to make comparisons. When we play we will see what our ideas are.

"I am very optimistic about the squad. Honestly, I see that the squad is balanced and can play in a different way, it gives us possibilities . We can use different styles. I like combinative football.

"I share the dominance of the matches through the pressure, but combining it with combinative football. Let us be dominant in that situation. I like the aggressiveness of the team, pressing high. We coaches have a heritage when you take a team from the previous coach. We should not destroy them. I will try to maintain everything the good.

"Mendilibar was very loved by the footballers and it is a painful situation. I found them with a lot of courage and ambition to reverse the situation."

On veteran pair Sergio Ramos and Jesus Naves, he added: "Jesús and Sergio are high-ranking footballers, natural leaders. They have to contribute on and off the field. With the ambition they have shown throughout their career. They are a permanent example. It is a luxury to be able to count on them."
