New Portsmouth deal for Zimbabwe star Benjani

Portsmouth plan to offer top scorer Benjani a new contract.

Benjani has enjoyed a stunning start to the Premier League season, scoring eight goals for Pompey following a stuttering first 18 months at Fratton Park.

The Zimbabwean's exploits are now likely to be rewarded with an extension to his contract, which is due to expire in 2009.

"Benjani is going nowhere," Pompey boss Redknapp told The News after the striker was linked with Juventus.

"He is a big player for us, an important one. Peter Storrie is going to sit down with him and start talking about another contract.

"He has come so far for us and it's great to see him scoring goals. It's good to see him getting his reward for how he's been playing.

"He is full of confidence at the moment and it's brilliant to see."
