Melbourne Victory's Leijer: A-League has improved significantly

Melbourne Victory defender Adrian Leijer feels the A-League has improved significantly in the past two years. The 23-year old returned to the Victory after two unsuccessful years with Fulham and Norwich City in England to find that the standard of the game in Australia had lifted.

"I think the skill level's improved significantly, I also think with the name of the A-League and the culture of Melbourne Victory - it's just such a bigger brand now," he told the Geelong Advertiser.

Leijer admitted to really enjoying his time back with his old club but said he was still a chance to have a shot at the elite level in Europe.

"It takes time, and I always thought it would take me a few games to find my form, but I'm just enjoying playing again and it's great to be back and put under the pressure of first team football," Leijer added.

"I'm 23, so hopefully I've got at least 10 years left in me...so it's obviously a dream to go back there but for now I want to concentrate on Melbourne and the main thing is to win something with Melbourne again...there's no better feeling than winning a championship and that's really all I want."
