Rio Ferdinand has made it clear that John Terry will not accept starting on the bench at Chelsea.
The 34-year-old centre-back watched Saturday's 2-0 victory over Arsenal from the sidelines as he went unselected in a Premier League game by Jose Mourinho for the first time when fit.
Former Manchester United star Ferdinand is well aware that Terry's successful career is coming towards its end but he does not believe the ex-England skipper will be content at being pushed to the side.
"What you've got to remember is he's 34 years old. He's had a big, long career. A successful career," he told BT Sports.
"There are times when you've just got to accept it (getting older and not starting).
"I don't think he'll be sat there thinking: 'This the end for me'.
"He's determined. I know what he's like, I've been in changing rooms with him for years, he'll want to turn this around I'm sure and he'll be waiting for someone to make a mistake to get a chance again."
