Macclesfield boss Keith Alexander has admitted he is wrapping striker John Rooney in cotton wool. Rooney, younger brother of England star Wayne, has been linked with a big-money move to Southampton.
Alexander, who saw his goalkeeper Jon Brain keep Aldershot at bay with a string of fine saves, said: "A lot of teams are looking at John (Rooney) and there are a lot of offers on the table.
"We didn't play him because we have to be careful he doesn't get injured.
"The blustery conditions wouldn't have suited him anyway and we'll keep him for the home game next week."
