Liverpool's Toure did not break African Cup promise to late brother

Kolo Toure has revealed that he promised his late brother a trophy from the 2015 African Cup of Nations.

Ibrahim, the younger brother of Liverpool defender Kolo and Manchester City midfielder Yaya, lost his battle with cancer aged 28 last year.

Kolo and Yaya were both absent when Ibrahim passed away in June but the Reds defender made it a goal of his to lift the African Cup for the Ivory Coast, which occurred in February after a penalty shootout win of Ghana.

"When Ibrahim died, both of us were away at the World Cup with the national team," Kolo told the Liverpool Echo.

"To be away from him on his last days was incredibly difficult.

"Ibrahim loved football. It was his life. I told my wife, Ibrahim's wife as well as my father, that I wanted to win this tournament for him.

"My father believed in me. He said it would happen. And it did."
