Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is eyeing Swansea City defender Ashley Williams. The Mirror says the 28-year-old has been watched several times by Anfield scouts this season and last night led Swansea to the Capital One Cup final.

But Rodgers will face competition from Arsenal who are also looking to bolster their defence.

Rodgers agreed not to poach any of his former players when he left the Liberty Stadium last summer, but did strike a deal for midfielder Joe Allen.

He will honour his word however and wait until the end of the season before making a move for Wales captain Williams.
