La Lig is set to sign a new three-year partnership with Puma which will see the German brand provide the league's official ball from next season, according to reports in Spain.
The deal will last until the end of the 2012/22 season with Puma reportedly paying €5 million (US$5.6 million) to take over from current suppliers, Nike, when the US sportswear brand's extension expires at the end of the current campaign, reports, www.sportspromedia.com/.
La Liga's decision to switch suppliers apparently comes amid growing frustrations that Nike was providing the league with a ball that is very similar to the English Premier League and Italian Serie A.
Javier Tebas, the president of La Liga, had wanted a ball that would be globally recognisable and completely exclusive compared to Europe's other top leagues, according to AS.
Nike and La Liga's partnership has lasted for 23 years but this new direction is another step in Puma's attempts to return to the pinnacle of European soccer.
