La Liga proving a hit with football fans in Asia

La Liga has scored well in a new a study conducted by Growth from Knowledge (GfK) on the sport's reach in Asia, reports, www.sportspromedia.com/.

In a research project consisting of over 5,000 interviews in ten Asian countries with internet users aged 16 to 69, GfK found that the level of interest has risen by seven per cent across the board.

The study also found that football is the most popular sport in both China and Indonesia and only second in India behind cricket.

La Liga will be enthused with the results of the project, as over 80 per cent of respondents said that they had a 'positive' or 'very positive' view of the Spanish league.

In China, Indonesia and India, unaided awareness of La Liga was also up four percentage points to seven per cent.

Javier Gomez, GfK's brand and customer experience director, said: "In our experience with regard to brand tracking studies, growth in brand awareness of one percentage point in one year is a very good figure. The result obtained by La Liga, with a rise of four percentage points in a single year, is extraordinary."

GfK also found that the number of people watching La Liga and recommending the competition had risen also.

One of the main reasons Asian fans gave for watching La Liga was the 'quality of the competition' – suggesting the league's top class players in the form of Lionel Messi, Gareth Bale and Antoine Griezmann are a major pull factor for foreign fans.
