Kuyt targets European football for Liverpool next season

Dirk Kuyt is only two short of his best goalscoring campaign in a Liverpool shirt two years ago but he is more focused on helping the team secure European football next term. The Holland international said: "I am normally not the kind of player who has a personal target," said the 30-year-old, who recently signed a new contract at Anfield.

"I would much more appreciate it if we went for a European spot, but it is nice to be involved in important moments.

"As a forward player you want to score goals and I am very satisfied with the way things are going.

"That is also down to the manager, who gives me a lot of confidence - it doesn't matter whether I play on the right or up front I am just enjoying my time and hopefully I can score a few more.

"The most important thing for us is to look to ourselves and if we win our own games we will get closer and closer (to fifth-placed Tottenham).

"Spurs have to come to Anfield and that will be interesting but it will only be interesting if we win our own games.

"Hopefully we can keep going and the focus at the moment is on Newcastle (next Sunday)."
