Kazakhstan to make 2026 World Cup bid

The Kazakhstan FA has announced they will make a bid to host the World Cup in 2026.

The Central Asian nation have disclosed their plans to go after the hosting rights for the FIFA tournament after they bid for the 2022 Winter Games against Beijing.

"We are discussing this issue with the government of my country to assess what are our chances," Kazakhstan FA president Yerlan Kozhagapanov told L'Equipe.

"Our country is developing rapidly, our economy is growing, so why not? We want to organise the winter Games in 2022, and we plan to engage in the race for the organisation of the World Cup 2026."

The 209 associations will vote at the FIFA Congress in May 2017 in Kuala Lumpur once the FIFA executive committee has decided on the 2026 bidding rules on May 30.
