England manager Roy Hodgson has revealed he had no idea that striker Charlie Austin was due to be away on his honeymoon during England's double-header against the Republic of Ireland and Slovenia.
The 25-year old striker received first national team call-up by Hodgson for the fixtures in June, forcing him to cancel his honeymoon plans.
Of the situation, an apologetic Hodgson said: "I'm sorry. I didn't know that. If he wants an apology, I will be happy to give him one, hopefully he will be able to find another moment.
"That is the type of information that we can't find out - we could I suppose - but it's not something that occurred to me when I thought about the two of them [Austin and Jamie Vardy, who was also selected for the first time], that I better ring up and check whether they are getting married or going on honeymoon.
"It didn't occur to me. Hopefully he is happy to come is he? Yes? Good."
