Houston: Ref sent off wrong Dundee Utd player!

Dundee United substitute Genno Myrie-Williams was cautioned for a foul on Aiden McGeady three minutes after coming on and shown a second yellow card for an innocuous challenge on Landry N'Guemo by referee Iain Brines 12 minutes later. However, United manager Peter Houston believes the second verdict was down to a case of mistaken identity.

"He was pointing all over the pitch to a player who'd been on for 15 minutes," he said. "He got it wrong and got the wrong guy.

"We had three black lads on the park and he's spoken to Prince Buaben minutes before and told him that if he committed another foul he'd be off the park: I think he thought that Genno was Prince. The referee wouldn't speak to me and it'll be interesting to see what his report says.

"This week we've been talking about the problems in Scottish football but this is something we need to sort out."

"Genno told the referee it was me and not him but the ref told him he was wrong," said Buaben. "He should know that: that's his job."

Houston also accused Celtic captain Scott Brown of disrespecting fellow professionals, claiming that the midfielder had been slapping his backside and telling United's midfielders that he had them in his hip pocket.

Buaben appeared to strike the Scotland star in the face during a second-half mêlée but the Ghanaian was unrepentant afterwards.

"He's a soft boy - too soft - and he keeps moaning the whole time," said Buaben.

"He needs to shut up and play football. To be fair, I did lift my hand to him but it was just frustration: I can tell you that if we were outside the pitch then he wouldn't keep talking like that."
