Gold Coast United coach Miron Bleiberg believes Jason Culina's return to Australia will improve him even further as a player.
Culina will meet his new teammates today and Bleiberg has backed him to become the key to the fledgling club's success.
"Jason's not only going to be our skipper he's going to be the player we look to unpick defences and make things happen for the strikers," said Bleiberg.
"When he was at FC Twente (in Holland) several years back he scored 15 goals in a season, so there's no doubt he has the capability. But since then we haven't seen him in that role for PSV Eindhoven and also the Socceroos.
"Every player has a role in a team and Pim's been using him in the best way for the Socceroos but I'll be using him in a way which will suit our team and our style.
"I plan to give him the freedom which I think will show people just how effective a player going forward he can be.
"I know it's a role Jason covets and I genuinely feel it's going to be great for him, for us and maybe even for Australia."
