Craig Gardner says Aston Villa teammate Gabby Agbonlahor will have been lifted by his England call.

Gardner said: "To be fair to Gabby, it is great that he got his England senior call-up this week.

"Admittedly England had a shortage of strikers but it will have done Gabby's confidence the power of good to be recalled by his country again.

"Gabby is a brilliant player and, while you can see where the fans are coming from it's just frustration that results haven't been going our way in the last few games.

"Gabby is the type of player to just get his head down and carry on with things.

"You watch him: once he gets that goal - and perhaps that will come this weekend - he will be flying again!"
